Peter Builds a Waterfall
Peter Builds a Waterfall
A true story about one man, one enormous idea, and a waterfall that appeared in the middle of Edmonton.
In 1980, artist Peter Lewis did something extraordinary. To celebrate Alberta’s 75th anniversary, he transformed Edmonton’s High Level Bridge into the Great Divide Waterfall, sending 50,000 litres of water cascading from the bridge into the North Saskatchewan River.
Peter Builds a Waterfall tells the story of the imagination, determination, and sheer force of personality it took to turn an improbable idea into one of Edmonton’s most memorable public artworks.
Written and illustrated by Toti, this charming book brings Peter’s remarkable project to life through colorful, playful artwork and the story of a person who believed that even seemingly impossible ideas could be made real.
A delightful piece of Edmonton and Alberta history for children, families, art lovers, and anyone who remembers seeing the Great Divide Waterfall for themselves.
